OK. The title is misleading people. It should be called "ordinary looking people look grotesque using peripheral vision, but return to normal when viewed directly". "Pretty" is a very subjective view. It worked for me, they look like monsters out of my peripheral vision, while looking at the cross, but while watching the faces they are just ordinary faces.
